Okay, so I am giving away my age with this post, but that’s okay. I already told everyone I was about 12 pounds overweight in the prior post!
I really wanted to share with everyone how exceptionally excited I am to have Retired! I guess I like to use the term Retire because it really epitomizes the mindset that I have taken regarding my new life transition.
Some define retire as:
To withdraw from one’s occupation, business, or office
To fall back or retreat, as from battle
To move back or away; recede.
I have definitely withdrawn.…
I moved back or almost like the tide, I’ve receded. Yet, I really enjoy the second definition, as I’ve fallen back or retreated as from battle! Wow! I definitely felt like I was in a losing TIME battle, and with the decision to fall back, I have regained my Life! Deciding not to continue to fight the battle doesn’t always mean you lose. Sometimes you find out that you’re only battling yourself, you are your worst enemy in some situations.
I also do not mean to say that you should not have persistence, for persistence is key in creating wealth, businesses and other of life’s goals. You know the feeling that I am talking about when you get up in the morning and dread what you know you will be facing in the day. You feel like a rubber band is tied around your throat, you struggle to breathe and you suck it up, because you think that’s what you’re supposed to be doing for the rest of your life.…yeah, that feeling.
Retiring young DOES NOT mean:
- you don’t earn income
- you’ll sleep all day and then wake long enough to move to your rocking chair
- you search out public assistance to sustain your existence
- you don’t do any work at all
Well what the heck do I mean then?
Retiring, I think is more of a mindset than an actual destination. Besides, if we are going to be Time Adventurers and Lifestyle Designers…why can’t we have our retirement
NOW, instead of “Defferred Retirement” as the
4 Hour WorkWeek describes it. The concept most people have is that retirement only occurs when you’re old, when you have no ability to earn income, when you must slow down and stop your life.…and *sigh* you finally made it. But made it to what?
This type of retirement stinks
What now? There is so much emphasis placed on “retiring old” that people find when they get there, they become
depressed. It is like having the dream to own a fantastic sports car…only when you acquire it, you find, it really doesn’t make you any happier, any sexier, or any richer. So what better cure to late retirement depression, than to practice retiring early and often!
Why wait until then, when our bodies are tired, our minds are fading, and our endurance waning? Isn’t now a great time to enjoy our life?
How DID I retire at 33?
- recognized my desire to retreat from my TIME Battle
- decided my income could be replaced with other businesses and income ventures
- had a mindset that everyday is a gift I would enjoy each one
- relied on careful planning, strong support and fantastic advisers
- set my intention on creating prosperity
- kept my eyes open for opportunities
While I am still in the process of creating even more wealth and prosperity (more to come on this)…I must say that very few of my big decisions are ever done with a snap judgment, and neither was my decision to retire. While this was a big decision, I have to say that it was the best decision of my life.

So did this happen for you as a decision you had to reach gradually, or was it kind of an “Oh snap!” moment when you just knew things had to change?
I ask because I definitely had one of those moments over the summer, and while I’m still working my tail off, I definitely started doing more for myself.
I like to think it was an Oh Snap decision, but it happened over a period of time. It was my vacation over the summer that was like the straw that broke the camel’s back Although, I thought I was doing what I wanted to be doing (making a lot of money, having my own business, working toward financial freedom) there was a values conflict. I needed to feel free, and have time with my family. So instead of doing nothing, I did something. Keep me posted on your progress, sounds cool!
My stepmother is retired at 50, but not by choice, by health (her back — two surgeries this past year) and the fact my father makes more than enough for the two, and he is fine with her being retired. In fact, I learned a lot from my father about having a business mentality. I believe just about any book, even if it was selling real estate or Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki, if it was business, I was reading it.
I am not sure if I want to really retire from work as I like the connections with others, but it is nice to see how others have come to that decision and I applaud them.
This is all very intriguing, I am almost 33 and while I didn’t retire I did go back to school and embarked a new career that would allow my time to be more flexible. I can’t wait to read more.

Hi Shradda, Thanks for following! My post on retirement was more about giving up what isn’t working for you in exchange for getting your life back. Although I am not making the same amount of money that I was when I was full time in my business (bye bye six figures for now), I still have my business as an asset, and have started a couple of other businesses that have generated livable income. My goal isn’t to kill myself to generate wealth and lose my family in the process, but to enjoy the process of wealth generation in such a way that I can still have a life and see my kids grow up. I am firmly of the belief that making money isn’t hard, but it is impossible to make more time!!
Have a happy new year!
